April is National Volunteer Month, but there’s a year-round need for volunteers in every community. Celebrate by giving your time to an organization with a mission you believe in.
Volunteers are the backbone of nonprofit organizations. They help provide valuable services, are often the most loyal donors, recruit media attention, assist with social networking, staff events and make many other contributions that help these organizations to fulfill their missions to provide valuable support to communities in need. Simply put, many organizations could not function without volunteers.
For those who volunteer, donating time is a fulfilling way to help others and to contribute to a cause about which they are passionate while bringing together other members of the community who share that same passion. Some organizations even provide in-kind benefits to volunteers and it’s an excellent way to build a resume or college application.
If you’re interested in volunteering or are an organization that needs volunteers, check out our recent grant recipients who may have volunteer opportunities HERE or visit HandsOn Greater Richmond to search for opportunities that connect to one of the region’s priority areas. Look for something that aligns with your hobbies and interests, and consider what types of skills you’re trying to gain when you’re looking to give your time to an organization.
There’s one more way to celebrate – be sure to thank a volunteer too!
