Six Points Innovation Center (6PIC): Empowering Youth in Highland Park - GRAND OPENING
Grand Opening of 6PIC on June 6th, 2017 from 6pm-8pm.
3001 Meadowbridge Road, Highland Park, RVA, 23222
Join us for the grand opening of the Six Points Innovation Center! Six Points Innovation Center (6PIC) is a newly renovated 4,000 square foot building at 3001 Meadowbridge Road in Highland Park that houses a safe, fully-programmed location for neighborhood youth to become advocates for the future of their community. An engaging hub of community revitalization, youth activity, and non-profit collaboration, 6PIC fills a gap in afterschool programming, resources, and education for neighborhood teens, while encouraging them to become Changemakers for their community.

Funding for the renovation of the Boaz & Ruth-owned building was made possible by the 2015 Community Innovation Grant from the Robins Foundation, and construction was overseen by
Tekton Builders. The space was designed by neighborhood youth with the assistance of volunteers from Baskervill, Glave & Holmes, and BCWH Architects. Partners at 6PIC include Saving Our Youth Virginia, Groundwork RVA, ART180, Boaz & Ruth, the Virginia Local Initiatives Support Corporation, the Community Preservation and Development Corporation, and Storefront for Community Design. Working from more than six years of community engagement in the Highland Park neighborhood, the following non-profit organizations will be co-located at 6PIC and drive all programming:
Storefront for Community Design is a non-profit design center. Storefront pairs community design needs with volunteer design professionals and will spearhead architecture and design education with the youth at 6PIC. Additionally, Storefront will manage Storefront Studios at 6PIC, which will include a recording booth, public media instruction, journalism education, and local storytelling initiatives that engage public history.
Groundwork RVA works with Richmond teens to design and build vibrant community spaces. At 6PIC, Groundwork RVA’s Green Team and Green Workforce programs will engage youth through service and green-collar job training with revitalization of the natural and urban environment.
Saving Our Youth Virginia seeks to keep youth on track toward a positive future in school and in the workforce. At 6PIC, Saving Our Youth offers high school and college assistance programming for youth in addition to employment assistance and professional programming.
ART 180 creates and provides art-related programs for young people living in challenging circumstances, encouraging personal and community change through self-expression. At 6PIC, ART 180 works with local artists to provide multi-week after school programs that allow young people to discover ways they can positively engage in and influence their surroundings.
The co-locational approach facilitates youth development alongside organic and innovative
economic development, while providing access to a diversity of proven youth programs and
resources in the heart of the neighborhood. Programming from these organizations provides
access to the fields of archaeology, urban ecology, art, architecture, design, public media, public
history, communication, public policy, and city planning.
Grand Opening: June 6, 6pm-8pm
Regular hours: Monday – Friday 9am-5pm, beginning June 7, 2017
After-hours and weekend operations will be specific to youth programming and events.
